MG Racing announce Peter Bennett Trophy race for Sydney

MG Racing are proud to announce that the first trip to Sydney Motorsport Park will also be vying for the inaugural Peter Bennett Trophy on Sunday. MG Racing have a long history and to reflect the contribution that Peter has had on the series as well as building one of the fastest MG V8’s in the world it is a fitting award.

The Peter Bennett trophy race will be awarded to each class winner for the Sunday trophy race and will put in play something that will be pride of place on many mantle pieces, the winner of the round will also receive a special trophy.

Peter Bennett and Glen Taylor competed in MG Racing for the last 20 years in varying cars, Glen driving the V8 MG at Sandown Historic in the final campaign prior to the vehicle being sold to Phil Chester who has campaigned the car for the past three seasons and the car fittingly has won the last two MG Racing Championship’s in Chester’s hands. A feat Bennett wanted but due to the distance was unable to seriously consider.

Captain Paul Vernall says it is the start of what he hopes will be a new relationship between NSW MG competitors and MG Racing, “I think we all hope this can be a bi-annual visit and a chance to connect with the NSW contingent, and with this trophy it is a fitting way to not only acknowledge the contribution but also a great way to set something unique up for future visits to NSW.  I think a few people already have their eyes on getting that trophy on their mantle piece”

No doubt the car will be a welcome addition back on the NSW border come June, owner Phil Chester said he was excited to take the car back up, “it will be great to take it up to NSW where it has such a big history and hopefully see Glen, Barry, Peter and Ingrid if possible”.

MG Racing entries have now exceeded 40 for the June event
